As we move into the fall season, the National Park Service has announced a reduction in operational hours for the boat ramps and aquatic invasive species (AIS) stations on the Blue Mesa Reservoir at Curecanti National Recreation Area. This change is in response to the decrease in daylight hours that the fall season brings, and is also due to a decrease in staffing levels that typically occurs during this time of year.
The boat ramps and AIS stations are crucial resources for boaters and environmental conservationists alike. They provide access to the reservoir for recreational activities, and also serve as checkpoints for preventing the spread of invasive species. However, the shorter daylight hours of fall mean that these facilities cannot operate as long each day.
In addition, staffing levels at the Curecanti National Recreation Area tend to drop in the fall, as many seasonal employees return to school or other jobs. This reduction in staff makes it necessary to limit the hours of operation for the boat ramps and AIS stations. Despite the reduced hours, the National Park Service remains committed to providing excellent service and ensuring the protection of the reservoir’s ecosystem.
