The South Rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is set to re-open to the public on August 18, 2025, according to a recent announcement by the Park staff. This popular tourist attraction, known for its stunning views and diverse vegetation, had been closed for an undisclosed period.
Visitors will once again have the opportunity to drive the South Rim Road to the visitor center, and access key points of interest such as Tomichi and Gunnison Point overlooks. These overlooks offer a unique vantage point to observe the forces of nature and the contrasting landscape of burned and unburned vegetation.
The South Rim will be open daily from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. It’s important for visitors to note that the entrance gate will lock promptly at 6:00 pm each day, so timely departures are crucial. The park also features a store, where visitors can purchase souvenirs and other items to commemorate their visit.
This re-opening marks an exciting time for nature enthusiasts and tourists alike, who have been eagerly anticipating the chance to explore the South Rim’s unique offerings. More information can be found on the National Park Service’s website.
