The donated land parcel includes an easement along the Capital Crescent Trail. This easement, a private right of way over the land of another, will be extinguished once the land donation is completed. The termination of this easement is a significant part of the agreement as it will enable uninterrupted public use of the trail.
This agreement represents a collaborative effort between Georgetown University, the National Park Service, and the District of Columbia to improve public access to the waterfront. By incorporating the donated land into the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park, a more seamless and continuous public experience of the waterfront and the trail will be created.
