Tourism to Big Bend National Park contributes $56.8 million to local economy

Big Bend National Park, located in Texas, has been revealed as a significant contributor to the local economy, according to a recent report by the National Park Service. The study found that in 2024, the park attracted 561 thousand visitors who spent an estimated $56.8 million in nearby gateway regions. This influx of tourism revenue is a vital support for local businesses and the wider community surrounding the park.

The economic benefits of the park extend beyond direct spending. The report also found that these expenditures supported a total of 585 jobs in the local area. This equates to $17.3 million in labor income, a significant injection of funds into the local economy. The job creation and income support a wide range of sectors including hospitality, retail, and services, all of which benefit from the increased tourism.

Furthermore, the report outlined that the visitor spending contributed $34.4 million in value added to the local economy. In total, the economic output in the local gateway economies surrounding Big Bend National Park was $63.7 million. These figures underscore the park’s vital role in supporting the financial stability and growth of its surrounding communities.
