Beach Parking Closure-Chincoteague Beach, Assateague Island National Seashore

August 23, 2025by Ranger Tom0
Chincoteague Beach and its associated parking areas at Assateague Island National Seashore have been temporarily closed due to extensive damage caused by Hurricane Erin. The storm and accompanying tidal surge have left the beach and parking facilities unsafe for public use. The closure will remain in effect until further notice, pending repairs and safety assessments.

In addition to the beach and parking closures, the Tom’s Cove Visitor Center, a popular point of interest for park visitors, has also been closed. This decision has been made in the interest of public safety following the hurricane’s severe impact on the area.

The National Park Service has not provided a timeline for when the beach, parking areas, and visitor center might reopen. Updates regarding the closures and ongoing recovery efforts will be posted on the Assateague Island National Seashore’s official website. Visitors are encouraged to check the site regularly for the most recent information.
