The hybrid cattail has been identified as a significant threat to the park’s wetlands. This invasive species outcompetes native plants for resources and can quickly take over a wetland area, reducing biodiversity and altering habitats. The cattail removal project aims to restore these habitats and protect the native plant species that are crucial for the park’s ecosystem.

The park is working with contractors who are experienced in invasive species removal. The process involves careful identification and removal of the hybrid cattails, ensuring minimal disturbance to other plants and wildlife. The removed cattails will be disposed of in a manner that prevents their re-establishment. This project underscores the National Park Service’s commitment to preserving natural habitats and biodiversity.
