Kings Canyon National Park in California has successfully completed the 2025 Big Stump East Prescribed Burn, as announced on June 24, 2025. The controlled burn spanned approximately 126 acres around the entrance area of the park. This preventative measure is part of a strategic effort to protect the historic Grant Grove from potential wildfires.

The prescribed burn is a critical tool in forest management, helping to reduce the risk of uncontrolled wildfires in the future. The measure was proven effective in defending the Grant Grove during the 2015 Rough Fire and the 2021 KNP Complex Fire. By reducing the amount of available fuel, the controlled burn increases the ability to protect key areas of the park during a wildfire.

The completion of the Big Stump East Prescribed Burn marks a significant step in maintaining the health and safety of Kings Canyon National Park. These efforts are part of a wider strategy by the National Park Service to protect and preserve the natural environment for future generations.
