Jacob Riis Park Access Restrictions 2025

May 23, 2025by Ranger Tom0
Gateway National Recreation Area has announced the continuation of access restrictions at Jacob Riis Park Beach due to hazardous conditions caused by significant beach erosion. The erosion has occurred along the eastern shoreline of the park, exposing deteriorated wooden groins, rockwork, and other structures, which pose a safety risk to visitors.

The access restrictions, initially established in 2024, will remain in effect at Bays 1 and 4 due to the ongoing unsafe conditions caused by the beach erosion. These areas are deemed particularly hazardous, and the National Park Service is urging visitors to respect the closures for their own safety.

The closures mean that Bays 1 and 4 will remain inaccessible for both general access and swimming. The National Park Service has not provided a timeline for when these areas might be reopened, indicating that the safety measures will continue indefinitely until the hazardous conditions are adequately addressed.
