The National Park Service (NPS) has announced temporary closures in Acadia National Park to facilitate peregrine falcon nesting. Starting from March 1, certain areas including the Penobscot East Trail, Jordan Cliffs Trail, Precipice Trail, and Valley Cove Trail will be closed until further notice. The closures are part of an annual initiative to protect the falcons during their nesting period.
In addition to the trail closures, the parking lot for the Precipice Trail will also remain closed to vehicles until further notice. The NPS has implemented these measures to prevent inadvertent human disturbance or harassment of the falcons during this critical period.
The closures are part of a broader commitment by the National Park Service to protect and preserve wildlife in their natural habitats. These measures ensure that the peregrine falcons have adequate space and tranquility to successfully nest and raise their young. Further updates on the closures will be provided by the NPS as necessary.
