A New Vision for Great Falls Starts Now

February 6, 2026by Ranger Tom0

The National Park Service (NPS) has completed the Great Falls Area Development Concept Plan in Maryland. This significant achievement provides a long-term strategy for the stewardship, visitor experiences, and education at the Great Falls location, a highly frequented site within the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park.

The new plan aims to enhance visitor experiences and education, while also ensuring the protection and preservation of the park’s natural and cultural resources. It is the result of extensive research, public involvement, and careful planning by the National Park Service. The plan will guide future decisions on park management, infrastructure improvements, and visitor services.

The Great Falls Area Development Concept Plan has been designed to address current and future needs of the park and its visitors. It will help to ensure the sustainability of the park’s resources, while also enhancing the visitor experience. The plan will be implemented in stages, with each phase focused on specific goals and objectives. The National Park Service will continue to engage with the public and stakeholders throughout the implementation process.
