Pile Burn Planned in Mesa Verde National Park

Fire managers at Mesa Verde National Park are preparing to conduct a pile burn. The operation is scheduled to take place in either February or March, but the exact timing is dependent on the area receiving sufficient snowfall before ignition can be initiated.

The planned burn is a part of a larger, ongoing effort to manage and maintain the park’s natural resources. Fire is a natural part of the ecosystem, and controlled burns can help reduce the risk of larger, uncontrolled wildfires. They can also help promote the growth of certain plant species that are adapted to fire.

As always, the safety of park visitors, staff, and the surrounding communities is a top priority. Fire managers will closely monitor weather conditions and adhere to strict burning regulations. The burn will only proceed if conditions are deemed safe and favorable. The public will be notified in advance of the burn and should expect temporary closures in the affected area during the operation.
