January 16, 2026by Ranger Tom0
The National Park Service (NPS) has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Everglades Harbor and Channel Dredging Project environmental assessment. This means that the proposed dredging project, which is designed to improve navigation in the Everglades Harbor, will not significantly impact the environment of the Everglades National Park.

The FONSI is the result of an environmental assessment carried out by the NPS. This assessment evaluated the potential environmental impacts of the dredging project. The NPS found that the project will not have a significant impact on the environment, making it possible for the project to proceed without a full Environmental Impact Statement.

This decision is a significant step forward for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, who can now proceed with their Everglades Harbor and Channel Dredging Project. The project aims to enhance navigation and safety in the Everglades Harbor, while also ensuring the protection and preservation of the local environment. This determination by the NPS allows the project to move forward within the guidelines of environmental protection and preservation.
