The symposium will highlight the work of Georgetown University students who have been conducting research on Clara Barton, a pioneering figure in nursing and the founder of the American Red Cross. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from these young scholars, gaining insight into their research methods and findings.

Glen Echo Park, the venue for the event, is a place of historical importance, as it was once the site of a significant chautauqua movement. This movement promoted adult education in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, resonating with the educational focus of the symposium. The Clara Barton Symposium is expected to strengthen the connection between the park and academic research, furthering the mission of the National Park Service.
