THE ALL-AMERICAN ROAD TRIP” A NATIONAL CALL TO EXPLORE AMERICA’S ORIGINAL JOURNEY TO INDEPENDENCE-NEW JERSEY

The National Park Service has launched the All-American Road Trip, an initiative aimed at encouraging travelers to explore Revolutionary War sites in New Jersey. The initiative is part of the America 250 project, which celebrates 250 years of American independence. The focus of the road trip is the historic 1781 Franco-American march to Yorktown, retracing the steps of the Washington-Rochambeau Trail.

The All-American Road Trip campaign has been launched in conjunction with a surge in national interest in the American Revolution, largely driven by Ken Burns’ documentary, The American Revolution. The initiative encourages exploration of the rich history of the Revolutionary War and the key role New Jersey played during this pivotal time in American history.

The Washington-Rochambeau Trail, which is the centerpiece of the All-American Road Trip, offers a unique journey through history. It follows the route taken by American and French troops under the command of General George Washington and French General Rochambeau during the decisive Yorktown campaign in 1781. The trail spans multiple states, but the focus of this initiative is on the New Jersey portion, highlighting its significance in the path to American independence.
