The San Juan National Historic Site has announced that it will begin its sod replacement project on the grounds of Castillo San Felipe del Morro. The project, initially announced in November, is set to commence on Monday, September 15, 2025. This follows the completion of a ground-penetrating survey assessment and archaeological study.
The sod replacement project will necessitate temporary closures of areas of Parcel A, located on the esplanade of the Castillo. Visitors to the historic site are reminded to anticipate these changes. The closures are necessary to facilitate the essential renovation of the grounds.
The project is part of the National Park Service’s dedication to preserving the cultural landscape and improving the long-term sustainability of park resources. In addition to ensuring the preservation of the site, the project also aims to enhance visitor enjoyment.
