September 5, 2025by Ranger Tom0
Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Curecanti National Recreation Area have moved to Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, effective from September 5 at 12:01 am. This change is in response to the current fire risk in these areas, and aims to prevent potential wildfires. The restrictions apply to all visitors and residents within the park boundaries.

Under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, certain activities are limited or prohibited. These include building, maintaining, or using a fire or campfire except within a developed recreation site, or improved site. Smoking is also prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.

Visitors are asked to comply with these restrictions and to stay informed about further updates. The National Park Service reminds everyone that violations of these prohibitions are punishable by law. The restrictions will remain in place until further notice.
