National Park Service seeks public input on Clara Barton Parkway Cantilever and Glen Echo Overpass Environmental Assessment

September 3, 2025by Ranger Tom0
The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public input on the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Clara Barton Parkway Cantilever and Glen Echo Overpass. The EA is a study of the potential environmental impacts that could result from replacing the cantilever structure and adjacent retaining walls between Cabin John Parkway and the Macarthur Boulevard exit ramp. It will also look into the environmental effects of demolishing the unused Glen Echo Overpass, a feature associated with Clara Barton Parkway.

The public’s comments on the EA are crucial in helping the NPS understand the potential environmental consequences of these proposed actions. The public’s feedback can provide additional perspectives and information that may not have been considered in the initial assessment. The NPS is committed to involving the public in its decision-making processes to ensure that all potential impacts are considered.

The public comment period will begin on September 9, 2025, and will run through October 9, 2025. During this time, interested parties can submit their comments online. The NPS encourages all those interested in the future of Clara Barton Parkway and Glen Echo Overpass to participate in this process.
