The National Park Service has announced the commencement of significant rehabilitation works on the multi-level James River Bridge, located at milepost 63.7 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The section of the parkway from milepost 63.5 to 63.9 is expected to close around September 9 to facilitate these critical repairs.
The planned repairs encompass a broad range of improvements. These include bridge deck rehabilitation, the application of a new asphalt overlay on the bridge, and the replacement of bridge bearings. In addition, the parking areas in the vicinity will also undergo repairs and rehabilitation.
The National Park Service anticipates that the work will be completed by the fall of 2026. The timely completion of these repairs will ensure the continued safety and accessibility of the iconic Blue Ridge Parkway, a key attraction within the national park system.
