Denali Road Closure and Campground Evacuations Due to Heavy Precipitation

August 30, 2025by Ranger Tom0
Heavy rainfall has caused flooding, erosion, and snow accumulation in parts of Denali National Park, leading to the closure of the Denali Park Road at Mile 15, also known as Savage Check Station. The severe weather conditions have made the road impassable, necessitating its closure until conditions improve. This has also resulted in the suspension of bus services beyond the Savage Check Station, affecting the mobility of park visitors.

Three campgrounds within the park have been evacuated due to the extreme weather conditions. Sanctuary Campground, Igloo Creek Campground, and Teklanika Campground have all been cleared of visitors for their safety. The timeline for the reopening of these facilities remains uncertain and will be dictated by upcoming weather conditions and the mitigation of the current situation.

The National Park Service urges visitors to stay updated on the situation through their website. They will continue to monitor the conditions and will provide updates as soon as the road and campgrounds are safe for use. The safety of visitors and staff remains the top priority for the National Park Service during this challenging period.
