Temporary Closure of Gauley River NRA’s Tailwaters Campground

The Tailwaters Campground in Gauley River National Recreation Area, found below Summersville Dam on the upper Gauley, is set for a temporary closure. The closure is timed to coincide with the start of this year’s ‘Gauley Season’. The National Park Service has not provided specific dates for the closure period.

The Gauley River National Recreation Area is a popular spot for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a range of activities from camping to white-water rafting. The Tailwaters Campground is a favored location within the park due to its proximity to the Gauley River, a renowned white-water rafting destination.

Visitors planning trips to the site during the Gauley Season are advised to check the National Park Service website for updates on the closure. Alternative camping locations within the Gauley River National Recreation Area remain open for use during the Tailwaters Campground closure.
