Temporary Closure of Gauley River NRA’s Tailwaters Campground

The Tailwaters Campground, situated in the Gauley River National Recreation Area below Summersville Dam on the upper Gauley, is set to temporarily close at the onset of this year’s ‘Gauley Season’. This announcement comes directly from the National Park Service (NPS). The closure is temporary and is designed to accommodate the annual influx of visitors during the popular Gauley Season.

The Gauley River National Recreation Area is a hotspot for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a range of activities including camping, hiking, and white-water rafting. The Tailwaters Campground is a popular site within the area, providing visitors with access to the upper Gauley River’s stunning views and recreational opportunities.

The NPS has not yet announced the specific dates for the temporary closure. Visitors are encouraged to check the official NPS website for updates and further information. Despite the closure of the Tailwaters Campground, the Gauley River National Recreation Area will remain open, offering alternative camping and recreational opportunities for visitors during the Gauley Season.
