South Rim of Black Canyon to open South Rim Road

The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park has announced that the South Rim Road will open to the public on Friday, August 29, 2025. This development will allow visitors to drive the full length of the South Rim Road, enhancing their park experience and providing greater access to the park’s features.

In addition to the road’s opening, park visitors will also be able to access all of the park’s overlooks. This will provide them with breathtaking, panoramic views of the Black Canyon, one of the park’s most beloved and iconic features. The overlooks are designed to offer visitors a variety of perspectives on the canyon, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of this national treasure.

Along with the South Rim Road and overlooks, the park’s visitor center and park store will also be open to the public. These facilities provide a wealth of resources for visitors, including educational materials, park souvenirs, and other amenities. The opening of these facilities, along with the South Rim Road, is expected to significantly enhance the visitor experience at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
