Visitors to Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area are being urged to take extra precautions following a confirmed case of rabies. A raccoon, which was reported for displaying unusual behavior near the Smithfield Beach commercial launch, tested positive for the disease last week.
The park has issued a warning to any visitors who may have had physical contact with wildlife within the area, urging them to notify park staff immediately. They are also advised to seek medical attention without delay.
The National Park Service is taking the situation seriously and is requesting that all visitors exercise caution when in the park, particularly around wildlife. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, and the safety of its visitors is of paramount importance.
