Hiker Fatality on South Kaibab Trail at Grand Canyon National Park

A hiker was reported unresponsive on the South Kaibab Trail, below Cedar Ridge, at the Grand Canyon National Park on July 8. The Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received the distress call at approximately 11:50 a.m. Immediate action was taken by bystanders at the scene, who initiated CPR on the hiker.

In response to the emergency, National Park Service (NPS) medical personnel were dispatched to the location via helicopter. Despite the swift response and the combined efforts of the bystanders and the NPS team, all attempts to resuscitate the individual were unsuccessful.

The incident underlines the potential dangers of hiking in the national park and serves as a reminder for visitors to be prepared and take necessary precautions while exploring the trails. Further details about the incident have not been released at this time.
