Fire restrictions now in place at Mojave National Preserve and Castle Mountains National Monument

July 3, 2025by Ranger Tom0

Due to heightened fire risks, the National Park Service has imposed fire prevention orders at Mojave National Preserve and Castle Mountains National Monument. These restrictions are a response to the increased fire danger currently facing these areas.

Under these orders, certain activities that could potentially start a fire are now restricted. This includes building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire, except within established campgrounds, picnic areas, and certain other designated areas. Smoking is also prohibited, unless it is within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.

The National Park Service urges visitors to adhere to these restrictions to ensure the safety of all and to protect and preserve the natural resources of these areas. The restrictions will remain in place until further notice.
