Campfires banned in all portions of North Cascades National Park, Ross Lake National Recreation Area, and Lake Chelan National Recreation Area

June 30, 2025by Ranger Tom0

Effective from Thursday, July 3, the National Park Service has announced a complete ban on campfires in all areas of the North Cascades National Park Service Complex. This includes North Cascades National Park, Ross Lake National Recreation Area, and Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. The ban extends to the ignition of wood, briquettes, or any fuel in fire pits, fire pans, and barbeque grills.

The decision to implement the ban has been taken to prevent the risk of wildfires, which can be sparked by uncontrolled or unsupervised fires. The ban will be in effect until further notice, and visitors are urged to respect the restrictions for their safety and the preservation of the park’s natural resources.

The North Cascades National Park Service Complex is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, featuring a diverse range of ecosystems and wildlife. Visitors are encouraged to continue enjoying the parks while adhering to the new fire restrictions. Alternative heat sources that can be turned off, such as gas camp stoves, are permitted for cooking.
