Warm water temperatures and low river flows prompt fishing closures on select rivers after 2 p.m. in Yellowstone National Park

June 19, 2025by Ranger Tom0
Beginning Thursday, June 19, 2025, Yellowstone National Park will impose daily fishing restrictions on select rivers and streams. The restrictions, effective from 2 p.m. to sunrise the following day, are in response to warm water temperatures and low river flows. These conditions can cause significant stress to the park’s aquatic ecosystems, including fish populations.

The daily fishing closures are a proactive measure taken by the National Park Service to protect the park’s natural resources. Warm water temperatures and low river flows can lead to higher mortality rates among fish. By limiting fishing during the hottest parts of the day, the park aims to reduce additional stress on fish populations.

Visitors to Yellowstone National Park are urged to respect these new restrictions and to plan their fishing activities accordingly. The park continues to monitor water conditions closely and will adjust restrictions as necessary to ensure the health and sustainability of its aquatic ecosystems.
