Fatality on San Juan River near Clay Hills in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area

A 50-year-old man from Kayenta, Arizona, tragically lost his life in the San Juan River near Clay Hills in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The incident occurred downstream of Paiute Farms Wash in San Juan County, Utah, on Sunday, June 8, around 3 pm MST.

The man was overtaken by river currents, a common hazard in this area. Despite the efforts of local authorities and park rangers, he was found deceased, presumed to have drowned. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.

This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the potential dangers present in natural water bodies, especially for those engaging in recreational activities. The National Park Service urges visitors to always exercise caution when near rivers and to be aware of the inherent risks associated with water activities.
