The Pullman National Historical Park is set to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (BSCP) with year-long festivities running through August 2026. The BSCP, a significant chapter in American labor history, was the first African-American labor union to sign a collective bargaining agreement with a major U.S. corporation.
The celebration will honor the legacy of the BSCP, whose members were known for their professionalism, dignity, and dedication to service, despite facing racial discrimination and economic challenges. The BSCP played a pivotal role in shaping the labor and civil rights movements in the U.S.
A series of events, including historical reenactments, educational programs, and exhibits will take place at the Pullman National Historical Park. The park, located in Chicago’s South Side, is a site of great historical significance as it was the birthplace of the BSCP. The public is invited to join the celebrations and learn more about this crucial part of American history.
