All Areas of Denali National Park and Preserve are Closed to Snowmobile Use Due to Inadequate Snow Cover (Spring 2025)

May 28, 2025by Ranger Tom0
The Superintendent of Denali National Park and Preserve has announced the closure of all park areas to snowmobile use for the season due to inadequate snow cover. This decision impacts the 1980 additions to the park on both sides of the Alaska Range, which were previously open for snowmobile use. The decision has been made to protect the park’s natural resources and ensure visitor safety.

The lack of sufficient snow cover makes the use of snowmobiles for traditional activities in the park unsafe and potentially damaging to the park’s environment. The closure will remain in effect for the entirety of the current season. The park’s management will continue to monitor snow conditions and make decisions based on the preservation of the park’s resources and visitor safety.

The Denali National Park and Preserve, which spans over six million acres, is a popular destination for snowmobiling during the winter months. However, the park’s management is committed to maintaining the balance between recreational activities and the preservation of its natural resources. The announcement of the closure can be found on the park’s official website.
