May 23, 2025by Ranger Tom0
The National Park Service (NPS) is inviting the public to share their thoughts and feedback on the Grazing Management Plan and Environmental Assessment (GrMP/EA) for Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Curecanti National Recreation Area. The request for public input is part of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process, which seeks to include public opinion in the decision-making process for actions that may impact the environment.

The GrMP/EA is a critical document that outlines how grazing will be managed in these two protected areas. It aims to balance the needs of the local agricultural community with the mandate to protect and preserve the natural and cultural resources within the parks. The plan’s development is guided by scientific research, best management practices, and public input.

The NPS encourages everyone with an interest in the future of these parks to participate in the public consultation process. Feedback from the public will be used to shape the final management plan, ensuring that a wide range of perspectives and concerns are taken into account. The public input process underscores the NPS’s commitment to transparency and inclusivity in its decision-making processes.
