Fire restrictions May 2025

May 12, 2025by Ranger Tom0
Due to severe drought conditions and an increase in fire activity, Arizona State, federal agencies, and Tribal agencies are set to implement Stage 2 fire restrictions in southeast Arizona. The decision is a response to the extreme weather conditions that have heightened the risk of wildfires in the area. This initiative aims to prevent the occurrence of fires that could potentially damage the environment and pose a risk to public safety.

Stage 2 fire restrictions include a ban on all open fires, including campfires, charcoal grills, and stove fires, even in developed campgrounds and picnic areas. Smoking is also prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is cleared of all flammable materials. Internal or external combustion engines without a spark arresting device are also banned under these restrictions.

The National Park Service and other agencies are urging the public to comply with these fire restrictions to help protect the community and the environment. Violations of these prohibitions are punishable by law and could lead to a fine or imprisonment. The agencies are also encouraging the public to report any suspicious fire activity to local law enforcement.
