May 9, 2025by Ranger Tom0
The Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier Park, Montana, will be open to vehicle traffic up to Avalanche Campground starting Saturday, May 10, 2025, just in time for Mother’s Day weekend. This announcement allows visitors to plan their Mother’s Day weekend with a scenic drive or a camping trip in the park. The park’s road crew is still working on clearing snow farther up the road for full access.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the crew were working between Triple Arches and Rim Rock. The precise timeline for the completion of the snow clearing operation is not stated, but the team is working diligently to ensure that the road is safe and accessible for visitors as soon as possible.

The entire Going-to-the-Sun Road typically does not open until sometime in mid to late June. This is due to the heavy snowfall the park experiences, which requires extensive clearing to ensure the safety of visitors. Despite this, the partial opening of the road for Mother’s Day weekend provides a great opportunity for families to enjoy the beauty of Glacier Park.
